SCREENWRITING for SHORTS - Monday, Nov. 14th (5:30-7pm)
Crissa-Jean Chappell holds an MFA in screenwriting and a Ph.D. in interdepartmental studies (film theory, literature and philosophy). Her debut novel, TOTAL CONSTANT ORDER (HarperTeen) is a Florida Book Award Medalist, Editor’s Choice Book, (VOYA starred review) and New York Public Library Book For The Teen Age. Chappell has taught film and creative writing at Miami International University of Art and Design for ten years . Rolando Viñas is a South Florida Screenwriter who has been optioned five times. Rolando teaches “One on One” as well as at Miami Dade College’s School of Continuing Education.

Billy Corben was born in Florida and a University of Miami graduate. His feature documentary directorial debut, Raw Deal: A Question of Consent, premiered at the Sundance Film Festival in 2001, making him one of the youngest directors in Sundance history. With producing partner Alfred Spellman, Corben founded rakontur, a Miami Beach-based production company and achieved worldwide acclaim with a string of documentaries: Cocaine Cowboys, Cocaine Cowboys 2, The U, Square Grouper, The Limelight and Dawgfight. He is best known as producer and host of “THE.VIDEO SHOW, with Jesse Miller,” a live Internet TV show, where he reviews equipment, interviews filmmakers, and tells jokes.

Oscar Graterol, Senior Editor and Owner of “Handle Like Eggs Productions” in Miami, FL has been editing for over 15 years successfully delivered commercial work, featured documentaries, films, reality series and promos for Dreamworks, HBO, MTV, The National Geographic Channel The Discovery Channel. Ariel Rubalcava is an Emmy Award winning editor with over 20 years of production experience. He has worked for NBC, Telemundo, Univision and the Disney Network. He has been the technical director for the Miami Short Film Festival since its inception.

Faudlin Pierre is a South Florida native. He received a bachelor of science in business adminis- tration from the University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill and his law degree from the University of Kentucky. He is admitted to practice law in the state of Florida and the United States Southern Dis- trict of Florida. Mr. Pierre litigates and transacts on behalf of his clients. He has written legal articles for Sports Business Journal, negotiated sponsorship agreements with companies such as Nike & Adidas, and has advised various athletes on the legal repercussions of their potential actions.

  1. A Film Festival based in Miami, Florida that features short films (30-minutes or less each)
  2. A growing movement to exhibit and expand the art form of short filmmaking
  3. A venue to engage the local community
Our Philosophy:  Short films, past and present, are true works of art, and deserve a venue dedicated to their exhibition. 

Our mission is to present quality films from around the world. As well as support, recognize and honor our filmmakers for their visionary excellence in creating a films under 30 minutes.

Serving as South Florida’s only short film festival, MsFF was founded to showcase Miami as a leader in contemporary filmmaking, and aims to exhibit the most captivating and innovative short content. In the process, MsFF hopes to build an audience for short film as well as induldge it’s current dedicated followers. For two weeks every fall thousands will flock to Miami for the screening of over 80 films from around the world, that have been organized “thematically” to give each shorts block an identity, and each audience member a reason to return night after night.

The Miami Short Film Festival is a dedicated contributor to the cultural arts, economy, and education of Miami-Dade County. Through a highly effective strategic partnership model, MsFF has introduced its unique programs and programming year-round into theaters, classrooms, businesses, and organizations throughout Miami-Dade County.
